The Sacrament of Confirmation
In the Sacrament of Confirmation, we receive God’s power through the seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit: Wisdom, Understanding, Right Judgment, Courage, Knowledge, Piety, and the Fear of the Lord. In receiving these gifts, we are called to use them for the greater glory of God. The Confirmation preparation at Transfiguration helps our young people to live their Catholic faith and serve others with the seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit in their daily lives. Our program will share with you how to get the most out of the beauty and richness of our Catholic faith.
The Sacrament of Confirmation at Transfiguration
Confirmation is celebrated in the 8th grade at Transfiguration after a two-year preparation program that begins in 7th grade. Students receive preparation in our School or through our Wednesday night Confirmation program.
This year we are using a program called YDisciple. It is a program that is available to all parishoners through FORMED.ORG. If you aren't already logged on you can register here free for all parishoners. This program is a great resource for parents and mentors from the parish to have a meaningful conversation with the teenagers about faith, moral decision making, and the important things in life. It is a program, as the name suggests, that aims to make disciples of all youth of the parish.
The second thing we are doing this year is opening up the Catholic Virtues that put into practice all the good things that will help us to become the person God created us to be. Virtues give us the habits that will allow us to use the Gifts of the Holy Spirit when they are received at Confirmation.
The third thing that we hope to have is a large group of parents and young adults helping as mentors during the year. They offer a great amount of wisdom, not because they have done everything perfect, but because they are continuing to pursue the Lord in their lives. We not only hope to form the moral and theological understanding of the youth, but also give them some encouragement to live it out in their life.
The last thing we are doing is asking all parishoners to attend (required for confirmation students and parents) our Fall Parish Formation Nights. These nights will allow Fr. Baer to form the parish all together and for the parishoners to have some social time as well. These will be benificial to not only parents of Family Formation and Confirmatin students, but all parents and men and women of the parish. Following Fr. Baer's talk the students will meet with their mentors and the parents will have time for men's and women's groups. There will be some social time and some time to discuss the talk. Childcare will be provided and we will record the talk if you can't make it because of an emergency.
