The Family Formation model is being piloted in the 2012-2013 season with families who have children in grades 5 and 6. The mission of Family Formation is to help parents respond to the Church’s call to be the first and foremost educators of their children. It is our purpose to aid families as they grow in their love and knowledge of the Catholic faith.
Required once-monthly parent meetings with prayer, Father Baer’s instruction, topic speakers and home lesson distribution /presentations will be held on a scheduled Wednesday evening from 6:30 through 8 pm. Grade 5 & 6 students will meet at the same time in grade level and large group sessions with volunteer catechists. Child care will be available for younger siblings.
Parent and student attendance at Father Baer’s 8 session Sunday Mass Series from 9:30-10:15 am (after the 8:30 and before the 10:30 am Masses) is also required. Please consult the online Family Formation Calendar for 2012-2013 for all dates and times. Meeting locations will be announced.
Weekly home lessons, taught by the parents, Scripture reading, activities, group service projects and presentation of the Living Stations by 5th grade students during Lent will prepare them for Faith Formation for Confirmation in 7th/ 8th grade.
Please consider volunteering to work as a catechist. Training is provided for catechists and substitute catechists at a once monthly gathering on a Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8 PM. Please consult the online calendar for the planned dates.
