Transfiguration Grief Ministry
Our GriefShare program, a grief support group, meets Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m., in the Church Conference Room. For more information, contact Barb Schmitz, 651-501-2220, bschmitz@transfigurationmn.org.
We have three goals for this ministry:
- To have a member of our Grief Ministry keep in touch with any individual or family in the Parish who has lost a loved one. We will also offer referrals to ongoing grief support groups in the area, such as “Growing through Loss,” the twice-yearly, six-week series for adults in Roseville, sponsored by the Twin Cities’ North Suburban Grief Support Coalition.
- To celebrate the “Month’s Mind,” the ancient custom in England and elsewhere of commemorating the loss of a loved one with a Memorial Mass one month after their death. This is an important pastoral time, when, after a few weeks, the world around us has gone back to business-as-usual, leaving the bereaved feeling the sting of loss perhaps even more painfully than in the first days of mourning.
- To bring together at Mass on November 2 – “All Souls’ Day” — the families and loved ones of all who have been buried from Transfiguration Parish during the previous twelve months. This is a sad yet moving occasion, a time to remind one another that we, and our loved ones, have not been forgotten.
